Columbus

Welcome to Columbus, Indiana - the architectural Mecca of the Midwest!

We hope that in your free time, you have the opportunity to check out a few of the wonderful attractions that make Columbus such a great place to visit! Below, please see the Top 5 things Joey and Ale recommend you see before leaving Columbus!

1.) Across the street from the First Christian Church, please take the time to visit the Henry Moore sculpture in front of the Bartholomew County Public Library Plaza. The sculpture is 20 feet tall, 12 feet wide and weighs 5 and ½ tons.

2.) Next to the library, you will find the Columbus Visitors Center (506 5th Street). Feel free to go inside but don't leave the block before taking a look at the stunning “Yellow Neon Chandelier and Persians,” by internationally known glass artist Dale Chihuly. The chandelier is 900 pieces of hand blown glass in four shades of yellow. It is nine feet tall and six feet across at its widest point. It has 50-feet of neon and weighs 1,200 pounds.

3.) Take a quick stroll on historic Washington Street in downtown Columbus. Among the many shops and restaurants, curb your sweet tooth with a fountain soda or old fashioned ice cream treat at Zaharako's (329 Washington Street). This newly renovated ice cream parlor has been a Columbus treasure since 1900. Ale recommends a trying a Green River! And if you ask nicely, they might even play the original pipe organ!

4.) Take a photo or two in Friendship Alley between 4th and 5th on Washington Street. Cork Marchessi, a San Francisco-based artist, created this colorful light sculpture as part of the Friendship Way project, a partnership with sister city Myoshi, Japan. Who knows – you might even see the Bride and Groom taking their post wedding photos nearby!

5.) Visit the Commons Mall and throw a good luck penny and make a wish for Joey and Ale at Jean Tinguely's Chaos I sculpture moat. Weighing almost seven tons and standing 30 feet high, the sculpture is an artistic and engineering wonder. If you grew up in Columbus, it is likely that you have fallen in this moat at least once. Ale and her sister Carleigh have both taken a tumble in the water!
